We started some new eye medications so we are hoping it will help her eyes! She is still on 5 supplements on a daily basis, along with duck and sweet potato food that she LOVES! :) she is still very food driven! They also got some new treats, that are lamb! They love those too! We have some spoiled dogs!
We've been allowing Bella to be naked more! She absolutely loves it, especially in the warmer weather! She's been rocking her bunny booties more, since that helps her to not scratch herself to the point of bleeding! The coconut oil is really helping as well! She is so soft and smells pretty great!
She got to go on a hike today with Alan and Sid, along with chasing the balls. She was very cautious as to where she went and watched her step! Sid is all over the place on hikes, wanting to smell and see everything! She sure loves to drink a lot of water! I'm convinced that she wasn't given fresh water on a regular basis. She realizes now that she has it whenever she wants and loves it!

Bella goes into a deep sleep so easily! She plays and plays and plays and then just passes out! Alan and I refer to her as acting like a toddler:) she goes goes goes and doesn't want to stop, even when you know she is tried. But she still wants to keep going. She flings herself all over the place, into the couch, the basket of toys, onto your lap, anywhere! It is hilarious to watch her! But when you grab her and hold her for a second, give her a little pat on the back and she will pass out instantly. She will fall asleep so quickly, which is when she cheek breaths. She breaths in through her nose and then out through her mouth which causes her cheeks to puff out. It is hilarious to watch. Alan loves it when she does it! It is so cute, because you can just see that she is so comfortable and in such a deep sleep that she feels safe to be with us.
One of her favorite things is to get her belly and legs rubbed! They are still really itchy, her legs are so you can scratch those for her and she rolls over and exposes her belly so she can get her belly rubbed! She will lay there for as long as you will scratch her. Her hair is starting to grow in on her belly. Poor thing. It is driving her nuts! :( oh well it's one more obstacle hurdled :) she is finally starting to look more like a dog than a burn victim. Her skin is still pink but it is getting covered by her hair! She's getting better on a daily basis
We found out that Bella had an old infection in her eyes, which is why she has some cloudiness around her eyes over her pupils. It can cause blindness and glaucoma. Along with redness and excess watering of her eyes. It can also cause bleeding of her eyes too. Poor thing. I seriously dislike her old owners. I don't understand how they did this to such a poor little dog who is so young and helpless. No dog should ever be treated the way she is treated.
We are constantly having to wipe her eyes because she is tearing and put drops in them. It is caused by trauma, distemper, fungal or bacterial infections. Any one of those can cause it. We're guessing a bacterial infection since she was a mess. We've always treated her eyes with drops but they don't seem to be getting better so we are going to try something new. It gets really noticeable when she is tired. Poor baby. Her skin is healing and her hair is really coming in now! People still constantly ask what is wrong with her. We are more than happy to share her story with people! I feel like she is in inspiration and that's why I write these. It helps me and I love sharing Bella's success. We still have a ways to go. We jump one obstacle and I feel like we hit another one! But that's okay! We will eventually get there! We have always called Sid, Sid the sheriff and since Bella follows Sid and does everything he does we started called her Bella the deputy! She gets very concerned when Sid barks if he hears a noise, so she runs over and checks it out! These two are hilarious! It is still like monkey see monkey do! And Sid is being the big brother and teaching her how to act! We love watching that!
Sid is so protective over her and he makes sure that she is okay all the time. When she got a bath the other night, Sid was sitting right there at the door watching to make sure she was okay. He was so concerned that she wasn't going to he okay and wanted to make sure! He is such a good big brother!
These two play all the time together! We talked about what they do when we are done and they aren't sleeping, we are guessing that they play! We want to set up a camera to see what they do during the day! I think that would be hilarious! We came home and saw Bella chewing on a cat toy! I don't know what it is with these dogs, but they love to play with cat toys that have cat nip in them! Silly dogs! They both are just so happy! We love them both so much!
Bella loves to snuggle! When she got up this morning, went potty, ate breakfast, she snuggled back into bed! She got herself under the covers and used our pillows to lay on! She is quite an inventive little lady! She can make herself comfortable in almost any place or situation, I think it's because she had to live in such horrible conditions before she came to us!
One of the funny things, she can almost fall asleep instantly once she has found a place that is comfortable!! See what I mean? She literally was guarding her chewy and just passed out. Sid and her have been playing steal each others chewy! They have been doing it all night! They are hilarious to watch. But she just passed out while she was guarding it, waiting for Sid to come steal it!
I think she is still healing a lot. She sleeps a lot. She gets bursts of energy and then just immediately passes out! :) she is so funny to watch and she just loves to cuddle! Her favorite place to sleep is between our legs at night, between us, on my chest or above our heads! She has just the kindest sweetest soul!
Today Bella was really itchy. Poor thing. Her hair has to be causing her to itch, it's super sad to watch :( she hops around and scatches herself. She's been wearing her booties more lately to help from bruising and bleeding poor thing.
We tried coconut oil today after our bath! She seemed to really like it and it seems to have softened her hair in one application of it. She seemed to like getting it out on as well! The nice thing is if she licks it, it's safe! And it doesn't make Her sticky and it absorbs into her skin so well! Lets see how well this helps! We are keeping positive thoughts! She got a new bath robe from her Grammy too! It was the first time we used it! It works well. Towel dry and then put the little robe shirt on until her skin is dry! It was awesome and it protected her while her skin was drying! They played very hard at the park today! They love to play. Today Bella was very popular with the dogs. They love to try to play but when she has a ball that is all that really matters to her! It is funny to watch because if they try to play too rough Sid jumps in between and doesn't let the dog play with Bella! He protects her and it is so cute to watch!
We got home and they just passed out! Waiting for their dinner! We started feeding them some new canned food and they love it! We alternate between chicken breast in their food and canned duck food! They absolutely love it. I was worried because Bella didn't eat her breakfast but she ate all her dinner and wanted more! She is currently playing with one of her new babies that was donated to SCD :)
Playing with her baby! She is loving life! We are hoping that she keeps getting better and better :)
Today we let Bella out without her jacket or t shirt since it was so warm! Well she must have felt liberated because she was all over the place! We had people stopping and watching her run in circles and chase the ball! They were all intrigued by her. Of course since she wasn't covered up, a lot of people looked and stared at her. A lot of people ask questions about her especially since her back was exposed today. We shared her story and everyone almost gets tears in their eyes when you tell them. I explain that we are fostering her and she is in a good home now on her way to recovery!
Just look at her! She looks so good! People are starting to recognize her and let us know that she is looking better! But you can see her little Mohawk on her back, and her hair growth. She is getting better. We absolutely love her wrinkles too!
Bella got her new collar and got to try it out today at the bark! Sid and her look very good together walking side by side with matching collars! These two are hits at the bark! You got a big goofy dog and a fast small dog chasing balls and keeping up with each other. People stop and watch these two play together!
She never sleeps on sid's bed but Sid is being super nice and letting her. She pretty much passed out tonight! She could barely stay awake! In fact we have 3 passed out animals! Sid, moon and Bella are all snoring!! Oh what a household we have this evening! The dogs are dreaming and running in their sleep and moon is sprawled out! Must have been a good day at the park today! :)
Sid has always attacked the vacuum. Bit it, barked at it, chased it... Well let me tell you Bella just sat there and watched. But today was a different story. Bella joined in on the chasing of the vacuum. I had two dogs barking, chasing and attacking the vacuum. Sid apparently is teaching Bella all sorts of great things!
These two chased the vacuum and the steam cleaner for about 30 minutes. I vacuumed then steam cleaned. It apparently exerted a lot of energy! When they were done they both passed out! It must have made them tired! Because we went to the bark afterwards and they didn't last long out there! They were exhausted 40 minutes into bark time!!
I have never seen her do this but she just laid down at the bark today in the grass on our way out. She was looking for a ball and found it and just started lounging! It was quite hilarious. I was trying to get them to the car so I could give them water. She won't drink water at the bark even when I bring it in but she will at the car. Maybe she's accepted that she's tired and she's ready for water and being at the car when we make it there.
I took her jacket off because it got extremely sunny today! It was so nice to see! I then had to take her t shirt off since she decided to follow Sid to the mud. Sid for some reason can't stay out of the one muddy place. Well Bella decided to follow today. She isn't nearly as tall as Sid so his toes were covered and her entire legs and belly were covered! What a nice way to end the dog park! Two muddy hot and tired pups! They are resting peacefully tonight let me tell you!
I had a second chance dogs meeting today and we had a pet store donate toys to us! We all took some toys home for the foster dogs and our pet dogs! They absolutely love them and they have been playing with them all night! Sid and Bella have been playing tug of war all night with toys! They have been chasing each other all over the apartment!
Bella loving on all the new toys! She seems like she is in heaven! I have her all her new toys after I gave her a vaccination. Tonight Alan and I gave her the parvo vaccination. She did so well. She didn't yelp. She didn't even squirm. She just sat that and let us give her the vaccination! She did so well! :)
Sid is taunting Bella! He grabbed a toy and then went running around the room hoping that Bella would chase him! Of course she did! She then grabbed the toy from him and he chased her!
Bella got the toy and started running from Sid! These two are like brother and sister and taunt each other! It is hilarious to watch!
We found out today, Sid and Bella are both interested in Chickens! Our friends, Erika and Tony have chickens, and they were both so interested in them! They were patiently waiting and watching them through the sliding glass door! Watching them with every move! The chickens were almost taunting them. It was quite hilarious to watch!!
Bella got to play with her favorite ball! She loves this ball and Grammy got her another one to make sure she could always have one! Look at her face! She is such a character and had so many expressions!
Our friends Tony and Erika got Bella an antler! My gosh! She absolutely loves it! Holy smokes she is carrying it all over the house and loves to have it with her at all times!
They also got two new bowls! They've never eaten out of "dog" bowls, we've always used bowls that are around the house! Well let me tell you, Bella only dropped on kibble on the ground! It was amazing! She is doing so much better and her eating out of that bowl only helped! She is improving on a daily basis! :) she melts our hearts!
