Happy 2nd birthday to ms. Bella bug! We have had get for 6 months now. Can you believe that? 6 months ago, she was whisked away from a horrific situation where she was head to toe covered with open wounds, pus, eye infections, intestinal issues and skin problems.
To put it nicely, she was a mess. She came to us with a fever and smelling of dead skin and pus. Gross, I know, I apologize. But it is the truth. She had recently given birth to puppies, 8 I believe, 6 of which died because she was so malnourished.
Bella has developed into the most amazing dog. She is incredibly smart. She has been taught to go potty on potty pads in the middle of the night if she can't hold it, she's also been bell trained to let us know when she has to go potty. We are still working on the basic commands. Which she is getting better at every day.
She's become a new dog entirely. I think she actually feels good and all she wants to do it play. It is so amazing to see her become the dog that she has become, and for us to be a part of her new life. Becoming a healthy dog who wants to enjoy life.
Bella was spayed 2 weeks ago and made a fabulous recovery. I don't think I have ever seen her with this much energy, ever.
She still has demodex, which they think she could have the rest of her life, but we aren't sure. Our vet has been amazing with Bella's progress!
She still wears booties and t shirts for the most part. I think scratching for her is almost habit. But we are getting there! I am pleased to announce that she doesn't have ONE single open wound on her body. She hasn't been a bloody mess in 8 weeks where she would scratch herself to the point of bleeding.
Let me tell you. Bella loves to play. She will play until she collapsed if you let her. And I can't even tell you how well her and Sid play together. They play tug, chase, and ball together. Bella is amazing at holding her own, to a 80 pound dog! :) Sid even seems happier to have a playmate around, to wrestle and chase!
These pictures don't do her any justice with how good she looks, how much hair she has, and how good she smells!
She is still getting baths 2 times a week with special shampoo, but she has hair that is soft! Soft hair! It is amazing!
We had the vet in tears with her progression and how well she is doing!
I am also pleased to announce that Bella is our foster failure. We have decided that we are going to keep Bella. We couldn't imagine our lives without this little ball of energy! Sid and her are the best of friends and even moonshine and Bella are becoming quite close! :)
We love the new addition to our family!
You can see before, her skin is open, red, no hair etc. these pictures truly don't give it justice!
I can tell you, this has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life. Taking a bed on her death bed to becoming a happy 2 year old pup, that just wants to love, kiss, snuggle and play.
Happy birthday Bella. Here is to many more years of your precious doggy life!
Please consider fostering or adopting a rescue dog. They make the most amazing dogs in the world.
