I realized that a lot of you reading this may not know who I am. I wanted to introduce myself because I run the Facebook site for Second Chance Dogs which is where most of you will be reading this and my blog.
My name is Michelle. I'm a newly wed to my husband Alan. We've been married about 8 months and we both have a passion for animals.
Before we started dating we talked about helping senior animals Indivually and how it was what we both wanted to do!
My husband and I met when we were at work! We were partners at work for about a year before we starting dating. We are
Both emts as our day job :)
You know that when you can spend 12+ hours in an ambulance together, many days a week and don't get sick of the person, you are meant to be together!
I decided I wanted to become a paramedic and so I went back to school! Alan and I decided to move in together at this point. This is when we met the founder and another director of Second Chance Dogs. We had been looking for the right dog for about a month. Living in an apartment, there were breed restrictions of course, and a TON of them. It's quite ridiculous. Especially the breeds on there. But this is when we adopted Sid.
I contacted Second Chance Dogs about a dog, and she was in eastern Washington but they were just getting this dog in and needed a foster for him. Alan and I decided that after hearing his story we wanted to adopt him. We knew we wanted to make it work.
Sid was abused and neglected. We are still finding out this to this day about what scare him.
He was on his way to he loaded up into the car to be taken away to the shelter when someone said wait hold on, I can help him. And this is when we stepped in to take him. His story is quite sad. Found as a stray at a couple months old, malnourished. Adopted by a couple, who split and then the man crated him for 18+ hours because he didn't have time for him. He was also beaten and neglected too. He was then dropped off at a shelter where he sat for 6 months. Waiting. Finally was adopted by a girl who didn't have time for him which is where SCD stepped in!
We took him in as a trial basis to see how our cat, Moonshine and him would get along. I've had moonshine since he was a couple weeks old! Well they bonded quickly and within a few hours we knew we couldn't give Sid up!
After having Sid about a year we moved to a new apartment complex, when I was done with paramedic school and could live closer to work. We then were thinking of fostering again for an emergency foster until this dog could be placed. Well the dog got adopted so that wasn't needed! That's when we got the call about Bella. A lot of you know Bella's story. So I won't go into that! But She was a mess and is doing amazing! Actually snoring away as I type this! She is loud!
This is when I started volunteering more with SCD. I was out of medic school and had more time on my hands as I was just working full time. I volunteered to make the calendars for Second Chance Dogs. I also then volunteered to start doing more food drives and fundraising! This is where it all began for me and Second Chance Dogs! Alan helped me a ton! Cold calling pet stores, helping set food drive boxes up! It was an awesome time for us and to get all of these places that wanted to help SCD!
After we got married in June we then bought a house in December! It's been a busy couple of years for us! Dating, medic school, moving, planning a wedding, marriage and buying a house! For those of you that don't personally know me, I like to be busy. I stay busy a lot. I don't know If I know how to sit and rest and relax :) I'm working on it!
After volunteering for about a year at SCD they asked me to become a director for them! I'm not the director of fundraising but I run our Facebook site as well! I'm the one on here about 95% of the time!
And now we have a house which allows us to help more dogs especially our goal of senior dogs! That's where Doris Day came into the picture :) for now our family is complete. If it were up to me, we'd have one or two other dogs, but Alan has put the kabosh on that for now :) and now you know a bit more about myself and how I'm affiliated with Second Chance Dogs!
